Whenever I would find someone in need of advice for a problem they might have, I would often tell them to try "the internet". Usually there is some info out there that is exactly what they are looking for, on that obscure forum or website where the author is probably also the one who discovered this possibly cheap and easy solution. Usually, this kind of information is left unknown to the majority of people that would find it useful. Wisdom DB will attempt to change that.
What is Wisdom DB . Net?
Wisdom DB is a database of wisdom. Anybody can come in and get a list of solutions to a problem or topic. The topics could be on everything from anti virus programs, to the common cold, to productivity techniques. If you sign up you can contribute your own solution or create a new topic. You can also vote on solutions using a ranking system good enough to be called 'Ultimate'.
Ultimate ranking system?
Users vote on solutions that they used. Also, users can rank their solutions amongst each other. With this information, solutions are compared one on one by the people that used them. Then they are ranked accordingly.
This system has many positive qualities. The most popular solution may not be ranked first. Both experts and novices can have a meaningful opinion. Also, it acts as a collective brain, several people, with experience on a little bit of everything will soon become knowledgeable about everything. And finally, if one person has the experience, that one person can make a difference.
Reading the solutions
Rank is how the ranking system placed that solution among the other solutions. Solidity is how many more votes a solution got when compared to the one below it. Pluses is the total number of users that ranked the solution, and didn't rank it last. Also there are the top 5 pros and cons for a solution.
Contributing
First you rank the solutions you have first hand experience with and meet the requirements on the top of the page.
If you choose to add a new solution, type the name in the last row and rank it. Then fill out the summary and more information. Try to write a summary that is short and informative enough to pique someone's interest. Put links and other information to other sites in the More Information box.
You may also pick the pros and cons that were most influential towards your ranking of the solution the way you did.
